This week we have jumped right into our Animated Literacy program and to get us started we got to meet Polly Panda, representing the letter P!
Polly parachutes to preschool and likes to paint pink and purple paintings! Her action is pretending to paint a piece of paper. Ask your child and they will show you her action!
After meeting Polly and learning her story and song, we got started right away with more letter p fun!
The students drew the letter P and traced it with moulding clay. They then created something out of clay that represented the letter P.
Some of our friends created peas, pickles, pigs and pandas!
We also began our rainbow writing this week. The children in KA worked hard at making upper and lowercase P’s, with finger spaces between each set. The children loved the rainbow writing as it gave them the freedom to write in whatever colour they wanted!
*we also always discuss holding our pencil with, what I call, Lobster Claws, forcing the children to bring their thumb, pointer and middle finger together to create a tripod grip for their writing utensil*
The children also got started with their very first guided drawing. When I teach this lesson I have the children draw with me step-by-step. The artwork that results is incredible!!! Take a look:
This week has been so much fun at the Elementary Campus of RVS, but we can’t wait to get settled into our own KA space at the Early Learning Campus!!!
