Subitizing in Kindergarten!

Subitizing is a new and exciting addition to our math program!

Subitizing is a skill that allows one to recognize the quantity of a collection at a glance without counting. By viewing a series of dots, subitizing allows the individual to instantly recognize its quantity. We will begin with dice patterns and move on to more abstract dot patterns, challenging and further developing the skill.

Students will work on subtilizing for a minimum of FIVE minutes a day. Dot Flash is a game we will play where the dot collection is flashed three times to the child. The first flash allows for visualization, the second flash allows for finding small groups and the third flash represents quantifying.

Stay tuned for more excitement in this area!!
