WOW have we ever been BUSY in Kindergarten A! What a fabulous start to our long weekends and what better way to get excited for them than celebrating our 100th Day of School AND Valentine’s Day all together!!!
We wanted to celebrate love, kindness and friendship at RVS for Valentine’s Day so we started working our way towards 100 Acts of Kindness that we could complete in our homes!
The kindness acts keep on rolling into KA!
To start off the celebrations we created Valentine bags so we could send Valentine cards to our friends. We used a fun splatter painting technique on our bags and then added loads of colourful and glittery decorations to make them our own!
Since we were all ready for the festivities to begin, we started the day off with some fun 100’s day math, counting and sorting, with a sweet and heart-filled Valentine’s twist. We used a variety of yummy Valentine treats such as:
* cinnamon hearts
* marshmallows
* cupcake flavoured Goldfish
* conversation hearts
We then counted and sorted these treats into ten groups of ten and when we did this we recognized that we could turn that into a multiplication problem, 10 x 10 = 100! While doing this activity the classroom was buzzing with numbers and counting voices, it was AWESOME!
When we completed our counting and sorting, we put our yummy treats into fun Valentine jars for us to enjoy later.
We continued with our exciting day by doing more 100’s day math! We wanted to guess how many times we would have to roll a dice to get to 100 on our hundred chart.
Many of us guessed numbers between 12 and 100! Most people took 20-35 rolls to get to 100!
Once we were done our exciting game of Roll the Dice to 100 (Free PDF), we continued on with our very busy, and very FUN day.
A CHOCOLATE HEART SCAVENGER HUNT
Miss Kim hid 100 chocolate hearts in our classroom and finding them was only half the fun!
Once we discovered where all the hearts were hidden, we started counting them to make sure we had 100!
We decided it would be easier to count them if we first sorted them into colours: red, purple and pink.
Once we did that, we started a tally, counting each of our coloured piles.
WE DID IT! WE REACHED 100!
After finally discovering the location of the missing three chocolates that we couldn’t find, we reached our goal of 100 chocolate treats!
Since our fun and busy day was coming to a close, we did our agendas and then started our Valentine card exchange.
We were so excited to take some time with our friends to look at our Valentine cards and treats, and to enjoy our time together!
What a truly special day it was in Kindergarten A at RVS! We had a BLAST!
