On May 19th, Kindergarten A & B were excited to have Teagan’s Dad, Tuan, join us with some students from the University of Calgary to discuss Brain Day. We were invited to visit three fun stations that allowed us to use our brains in relation to some of our senses.
Station #1: Sense of Touch
At this station we got to touch and feel what a real brain might feel like. It was made out of JELL-O and was very squishy and wobbly.
We were also taught how to properly wear our helmets using the 2V1 rule:
We were shown how to fit our helmets to our heads in order to keep our brains safe!
Station #2: Sense of Smell
At this station we were invited to play with our sense of smell and how this is related to our brains. We had a chance to smell a variety of different items, some yummy like limes and herbs, others gross like dog food and coffee!
It was fun to try all the senses and see which ones we each liked or disliked.
Station #3: Sense of Taste
At this station we were invited to explore our sense of taste and how it relates to our brains. We dipped q-tips into flavoured water and dabbed them on our tongues. Some of the flavours were salty, sour and sweet. It was interesting to see which flavours were most liked or least enjoyed.
It was really fun having a special guest join our kindergarten classes. We learned lots about Brain Day and enjoyed some yummy brain jell-o as a treat.
